Semester final part three

In this photo I see rule of thirds. The flames move from the top left corner and end with the bottle down near the bottom right. This cause the photo to have a movement taking up three frames of space. This was achieved by a fast shutter speed.
Boarder/framing is the rule of this photo. The girl is framed by the green vines on all sides, top, bottom, left and right.  This was achieved by the angle of the shot and the depth.

I feel that Simplicity is the rule of this photo, and the focus of it the small monkey biting her ear. The rest of the frame is blurred so the only focus is the monkey with the plain background. This was achieved by focusing on the monkey with a close shot.

This photo's rule is Mergers. The way that the sun was caught in the background to merge with Obama's hands makes him look like he's summoning the sun in his hands. The photographer achieved this by changing angles.

Semester final part two

The fire is out of control. Local policeman was caught on horse back.
Rhino goes home. After kept in captivity Rhino was let back into the wild.

Man is killed today. A drug trade went bad, gunman died.

Planning Ahead: Self Portrait

Okay I plan to take pictures of either myself or my sister. Or both at the same time. The photo's will more than likely, nine times out of ten be taken in the creek/wood things in my neighborhood, just because where else do I have to take photo's that isn't my house? Not many cool places. I plan to try and use the tree's and things to make a odd effect, I might even go for a theme, and dress my sister up, you never know. Things could happen. Lot's of things. It's called creative freedom, an idea might spring to me as I get out there. I'm not going to be boring and stick to what I tell you word for word. Good photography shouldn't work that way.

Photography Self Portraits

1. (Couldn't find credit)

So this picture was the first one I saw in a sea of other portraits so this is the one that I chose to be my first. Obviously I like this one because of the felt mustache and the giant eye lashes. Comical, but also weirdly cute.

2. Abelardo Morell

So this guy is hanging upside-down and then there's the cat that's just sitting there. I just imagine the cat attacking the feet and then there he goes. Crazy photography guy is going down, head first.

Formal Portraits

1. Allanah Ahutchison

Obviously I chose this photo because the baby is cute a doot doot. You can just tell even in black and white that the baby's eyes are green.

2. (Couldn't locate credit)

I like this portrait because  Einstein looks like a crazy old guy who conducts a whole orchestra or something, but you know he would frickle frack it up.

Casual Portraits

1. Stock Photo

I chose this portrait because look at these people. They look like fun people. Look at the dad sandals. Look at that boy and all his sass.

2. Andy Sowards

Much edge. Very punk. So pretty. Wow.

Environmental Portraits

1. Mtomaselli

I chose this photo as the first Environmental Portrait that I liked because of how much wonder was on the little boys face, and how much the mother looked to love her child. It was a simpler photo not much going on except for the boy and his mother, but there was emotion in it.

2. Francine Schaepper

I chose this Environmental Photo because of the movement. The way the skirt looks to flow.

Self portrait preview 2-3 tips.

Bring something to focus your camera on so you can make sure that your photo will be focused on you, the subject when you take the self portrait, and won't be a blurry mess.

A tripod is helpful so you can have further away self portraits, and portraits without the camera in the photo.

The three pillars : Shutter speed

Fast Shutter Speed:

Slow Shutter Speed:

The three pillars: Aperture

1.) We would closely relate Aperture to the pupil.

2.) The smaller the Aperture the larger the f-stop. The higher the Aperture the smaller the f-stop.

3.) The larger the Aperture the smaller the focus of the field meaning that the focus of your picture will be small and sharp while everything else is blurred. The smaller the Aperture the larger the focus meaning deeper depth of field.

Aperture f 2.8

Aperture f16 (comparison to f 1.4)

Iphone App Quick write

If I could create a smart phone app it would be an app that read minds. Particularly mothers minds so I can tell my mom what she want's to hear. If I could create this app it would cost money because that sounds like some high tech equipment.

Quick Write: Brave

I ate a potato once. Not a normal one, a sweet potato, I think that was really brave.

Flooding

My neighborhood was apart of the flooding. There was chaos, people speeding in their cars to beat the water and get out. There were horns blaring at six am. We got out of our house to see cars rushing down our streets to get up higher, the neighborhood before ours was already flooding and people were evacuating. A woman screamed at me when I hurried out of my house that 'The water is coming'.

It came alright. It rose quickly and by seven am I had clothes in a bag, my electronics and books up as high as I could get them and then I was on the streets with my brother and mother making sure that everyone we could reach was awake and knew that the water was rising. It came fast the water, and it began to rush and when it got to my waist I had to turn back to my house.

Car's were trying to drive through the water, trucks pushing past and nearly flipping cars at the curbs because the water rippled out so strong. The water got so high that people couldn't drive through it anymore. I could see cars that were on still with the doors ajar and abandoned in the street. When the water came harder they began to hit into each other, a truck getting swept into the mix. You could hear the grinding of metal four houses away.

They brought helicopter down two streets away from me getting the people from on top of their houses or plucking out the people that were stuck. The rescue teams were tying ropes as lines to hold on to as they waded people out of the water and up higher.

I rescued a dog out of the water, no one was around to claim it, and no one really wanted to get waist deep in the water. I got the dog out and on dry ground.

There were a lot of people wading up through the water, and a lot of houses that were going to be destroyed. I never saw so much water on my streets before, it was like a river. We had a man that we've never talked to before taking shelter on our porch with his dogs. The flood really brought some people together, getting the neighborhood safe even when the water was flowing.

The water was still inches deep on my street, knee high on the next street over near nine am. School was not cancelled for anyone, so I did what I could got ready and picked my way through the crowed and EMS, firetrucks, and news vans to get higher up the hill to a friend who would take me to school with her.

It was hectic but I'm still at school. I saved a dog, I watched panic, and preparation. I saw people getting rescued, and people losing homes. It was a strange morning.

Quick write 10-29

My walls are white, my doors are sky blue and all the trim is painted a warm chocolate brown. On my bedroom door are silhouetted birds, and at the very bottom is a red, dead, bird. I painted them all myself. My walls are covered with pictures that I drew and a couple of posters. (Middle Earth map and Monsters University.) I have a small room so it looks really cluttered with all the furniture I need along with all the things that make it my room. My shelf full of books with a stereo on top. My second shelf with my art supplies and shoes/fem care. I'm super proud about my door. I mean I hand painted all those silhouetted birds.

My Favorite Photo From Academics/Community Service.

This was both my favorite picture and the one that I thought told the best story. I chose this photo because it shows a lot and really I could have used it for all three categories. To me it has the best emotion, and filling the frame as well.

In this photo I see repetition and I would call it leading lines. There also looks to me to be some contrast  on thee sides of the photo. One side there are the homeless who look much older and a little worn, and then the teens who happily hold out food to them.

Filling The Frame

I chose this photo as filling the frame because there was the most going on. Kids gathered around with varieties of smiles as the table smokes. (dry ice?)

Action and Emotion

I chose this as the action. They're spot welding or something, causing the glow. I find it very interesting how it smokes out, and I bet they were having a lot of fun.

The Story

This photo was the one that I thought told the best story. There are teens feeding the homeless. A very selfless act, and the old woman looks like she appreciates it very much.

Mural project preview

1. What theme could you use here at school to make your own mural that tells a unique Akins story? Be specific. Explain what subjects you will include in your mural.

The life of wanna be gangsta swag. We could take pictures of 90% of Akins student body and have plenty of composition subjects.

2. Why is this theme worth devoting time time and effort to capture? Why would other students care about this theme?

This theme is the only theme I see day to day, and easy to capture. I feel a lot of students would care about this theme because they idolize 'swaggy'.

3. What are the advantages and disadvantages to using a phone camera to do this project?
Some advantages is that it would look student like and like selfies which are popular. A disadvantage is that the pictures when made larger would be grainy.

4. What are the advantages and disadvantages to using an SLR camera to do this project?
Advantages of a SLR camera would be clear pictures, but a disadvantaged would be it could look staged like a professional photo shoot.

5. Should we use phones or SLR cameras for this project? Why?

I feel that we should use SLR cameras for the clearer image. Taking candid photo could solve the 'staged' problem.

Purpose of Photography: Africa

The photo's were cute sometimes.

This photo Lion under leaning tree by Nick Brandt was my favorite of the slide show. I like the simplicity and the sort of desolation of the photo. Also it looks faintly like there is a single sun ray illuminating the lion as he lays under the tree.

I'm pretty sure that Simplicity is used in this photo.

He uses a Pentax 67II with only two fixed lenses

Nick Brandt takes these photo's of Africa and the wildlife there as a last testament before it's destroyed by the hand of man.

He hopes to preserve its beauty in his photos before it's no longer there.

This is what Brandt had to say about not using a telephoto lens to photos.  "You wouldn't take a portrait of a human being from a hundred feet away and expect to capture their spirit; you'd move in close."

quick write

It was a calm day for parkour. Wearing a scarf and yelling 'Parkour'. It was peaceful, but then everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked!

Little children cried as their mothers burned, their mothers ashes choking them as the wind blew, but not fierce enough to quell the flames. One man, one suave man clad in green and scarfed parkoured onto the scene. He flying kicked into the scene crushing the skull of a Fire Bender. Blood poured darker than the flames encompassing the fine battle field.

The children choking on their mothers ashes fled with one another trying to get out of the way of danger as the fire nation sent sharp flames. One child was not so lucky and the flames consumed him like dry kindling. He was ashes in moments, not even his screams heard.

The green clad man tried to save the others picking out the other Fire Benders and charged... but he wasn't the Avatar. He had no bending skills, he was not the Avatar, he only looked suave and had suave parkour skills.

The Fire Benders attacked as one, but they didn't want to man to die quickly as the child. They burned his legs felling him. The green clad man fell with a scream of agony. He could no longer use his suave parkour skills. The Fire nation men advanced. Their faces illuminated in the flames, and the suave man thought that surely this was the face of Satan in these many men. The evil hatred and malicious glee too much to be human .

His attack lasted for hours. They broke his bones, shattering them, and ripping him to pieces. They burned from him his very flesh until he was this charred broken thing barely clinging to life. He wished now that he was dead. He was not suave anymore, and if he could not be suave he did not want to live in the world.

"You are not the Avatar, you are nothing. The time of Fire is now." The biggest Fire Bender remarked coldly to the man, and he knew that he was nothing. With one powerful stomp the Fire Bender crushed the once suave man's skull caved in as the Fire Bender that he killed.

He died as nothing. All of humanity was doomed, because it was the time of Fire. There was no Avatar to hear their screams. The Fire Nation would succeed this time.

Second Six weeks.

I want to take a lot of new pictures. If we could I would take a camera home and take pictures of everything around my house, outside, in the woods near by. I like taking pictures. It's fun capturing a moment like that. I'd also like to learn more about all the functions on the camera.

My Composition Photos

This photo of the ceiling was a unique perspective.
The pipes and lines of the sheet metal on the awnings were leading lines. It carried my eyes out towards the cafeteria
The way that the light separated the tiles and cast a shadow on one and made the other lighter seemed like good Contrast.
Our shadows to me were balanced together.
The repetition of the arrows shades in the wood door drew my eye.
 The simple exit sign.
I chose this as my rule of thirds because the purple among the green really draws a triangle pattern.

Selfie Quick write.

The Photo is of a little India girl who is taking a selfie of herself in a croud of bowing women at prayer. I dislike this photo because I feel that a little girl that young shouldn't be tainted by media things like that. Shouldn't own a phone, or know how to take selfies.

Though I don't think she is taking a selfie. The phone looks like a nokia and I doubt it haves a front facing camera. She might be taking a picture of others. There is a lot of repetition in this photo.

National Geographic warm-up

From all the photos this was my favorite one. It looks like magic coming down on sunrays. It was attention drawing as I scrolled through the photos. I like how the burnt red brown of the rock walls contrast with the blueish/white of the sand falling in the sunlight.
