Photo Manipulation and Ethics

Journalist manipulated photo's either as pranks or trying to get their photo's better recognized. They were fired because they made their pictures lie. Changing the photo to alter the events made a lie between the reader and journalist. To try and prevent these alterations by revising the ethics code that had been made in the 40's.

To me changing a photo so that it shows the event or subject in a different light, even if it wasn't true isn't acceptable. People depend on their news to be truthful, altering photos is giving readers a lie. To live in a lie is a poor thing. We have a right to the truth, and yes we can handle the truth.

This photo was doctored to make the soldier look like he is yelling at the man holding the child. When in actuality the man was further back holding his child. The soldier was telling everyone to sit. The manipulation of this photo makes it seem more aggressive then it was. This was the most unethical photo in my opinion, telling lies about a conflict. Trying to convey more violence then there was.

This photo manipulation seemed to be harmless. It only changed her teeth for aesthetic reasons. It wasn't lying about the actual event. She still did all the things it said, she just has better looking teeth in one photo.
